Mapa

I use bright, expressive colors to evoke joy, comfort, and nostalgia. My paintings are meant to remind viewers of simple moments that may otherwise be overlooked, yet remain deeply meaningful in our collective experience. In each work, I hope to celebrate Filipino identity and create images that bring ease, happiness, and remembrance.

Jose Vicente Mapa III, or Jao Mapa, is a Figurative Expressionist known for depicting simple life and rich Filipino culture.
His common subjects include taho vendors, jeepneys, tricycles, mother and child, harvest, and fishermen.

He has a knack for interpreting these subjects in a comic way. His primary strength lies in his use of bright colored paintings, which are intended to evoke feelings of ease and happiness in the viewer or to help them recall a relatable past memory.
